This is the second edition of the collection formerly entitled Sweet and Bitter Waters.
In 2008, at the beginning of a tour of Japan, I started a journal. Although on the surface Japan is a very secular and materialist country, the culture has arisen out of a deep spirituality. I felt profoundly enriched by my visits to Shinto and Buddhist shrines and to the Peace Gardens at Hiroshima.
By 2012 my journal had grown into quite a large collection of insights. Having had two major operations for cancer in this period, I felt I should try to write down what I consider to be some the more important entries in a more accessible style than my scribblings. I eventually decided they should take the form of early sutras, short pieces of poetic-prose each dealing with a specific subject. Within a few weeks the whole book was assembled and is now available free as pdf file from this site or as an ebook from Amazon. All royalties from sales on Amazon will be used for good causes not covered by normal charities.
